July Logistics

Saturday will be full of farm visits and on Sunday we will be back at Woodlawn for a day of field and classroom training.

***Please RSVP to let us know if you’ll be attending the farm visits on Saturday ASAP. We need to get a head count for lunch. Thanks!***

Below is the schedule, map, and other logistical information for the weekend.

Please come prepared for the weather. So far, the weather looks pretty good, but we will conduct the farm tours rain or shine. If you miss us at the start of the day, please call Matt (202-365-0158) to coordinate meeting up with us throughout the day.

Saturday Farm Visits:
We’ll be visiting 4 farms on Saturday. Make sure to come with some questions from the list that Poppy provided to ask farmers on tours. Bring a notebook and writing utensil. Also, these are potential partners, employers, and/or mentors, so it is fine to ask for contact information and to share your contact information.

Make sure to bring a cooler with ice/ice packs in case you want to buy something at any of the farms with stores (I think it is just the first one). Also, bring both cash and credit, as some farms take one or the other.

Since we have a pretty large group, it would be great to carpool as much as possible to reduce the impact on the farms from 25+ cars. In order to accommodate this, we’d like to meet at a Park & Ride lot and then consolidate into larger cars to visit the farms. Please let me know if you have are willing to drive others in your car, and how many passengers you can accommodate. Carpooling is absolutely optional, but highly encouraged.

If you do not have transportation, please let me know and we can work out a way to meet up either at the carpool lot, or before.

Call Matt at 202-365-0158 with any questions or problems.

Saturday July 27, Farm Visits
Park & Ride / Carpooling – Meet at 0745. We will leave promptly by 0800.
Oxon Hill Park & Ride

**Alternative Carpool – If you live in MD, and want to meet, I would suggest meeting at the Upper Marlboro Equestrian Center Parking Lot (MD-4 & Water St. in Upper Marlboro) and leaving from there. We will end pretty close to there, and it would be a reasonable start and end point. I will not be going there, so this stop would need to be coordinated between you. You’d need to leave there by 0800.

PA Bowen Homestead Farm – Cows and cheese, pigs, turkeys, chickens, & farm store
Take the driveway that brings you to the red buildings and we will meet in the Farm Store.

Farm 2 – 1130 – 1230
