We look forward to seeing you at our monthly training this weekend, April 27-28. Saturday will be full of farm visits and on Sunday we will be back at Woodlawn for a day of business training with Poppy Davis.***Please RSVP to let us know if you’ll be attending the farm visits on Saturday ASAP. We need to get a head count for lunch. Thanks!***Below is the information for this weekend. Attached is a document with some additional information that doesn't fit into the text of an email. Please come prepared for the weather, and for mud from previous days’ rain. We’ll conduct the farm tours rain or shine. If you miss us at the start of the day, please call Matt (202-365-0158) to coordinate meeting up with us throughout the day. Please bring your laptop this weekend! We will try to provide table space for all of you to set up your laptops. The laptop will be important for the accounting/financial workbook you will use this year.If you do not have a laptop, please let me know. We have a few that we can provide for use during the weekend. A tablet may also be OK for training weekend purposes, as long as you can access and view spreadsheet files on google drive.March Materials:Materials and presentations from March are in the Dropbox Folder. Each of the farms has a livestock component, and one is diversified operation that covers a lot of options.Advice for these tours. Ask the farmers questions about how they started, how they identified and acquired land, and ask them about their businesses. Don’t be afraid to ask questions about the quality of life or plans for the future. Some will answer openly, others may be a little more reserved, but these are questions that will help you determine what, and how, you want to do with your future farm businesses.Throughout the year, some of farms we visit will have things available for sale. Feel free to buy things, but come prepared with a cooler and cool packs/ice if you’re buying frozen meats. Also, bring both cash and credit, as some farms take one or the other.Since we have a pretty large group, it would be great to carpool as much as possible to reduce the impact on the farms from 25+ cars. In order to accommodate this, we’d like to meet at a local Park & Ride lot and then consolidate into larger cars to visit the farms. Please let me know if you have are willing to drive others in your car, and how many passengers you can accommodate. Carpooling is absolutely optional, but highly encourage. If you do not have transportation, please let me know and we can set up a ride for you from the DC area out to the start of the farm tours.Call Matt at 202-365-0158 with any questions or problems.Saturday April 27, Farm VisitsPark & Ride / Carpooling – Meet at 0815.
